Chief Engineer

Reports To: Chief Operating Engineer

Job Summary

This position represents Chief Engineer responsibility. The successful candidate should demonstrate at least 15 years of progressive responsibility in the planning, design, construction and operations assistance of large municipal and industrial water and wastewater facilities. Candidate shall be known for and demonstrate advanced knowledge and experience in several technical specialty areas. Demonstrated competency in leading a team in assembling contract documents for large complex projects is essential. Experience with state-of-the art treatment technologies and process and hydraulic modeling experience is necessary. P.E. registration and advanced degree are required. Candidate shall demonstrate superior ability to achieve firm-wide technical and quality goals. A strong desire to assist others in their professional development and the ability to achieve exceptional results without sacrificing human relationships is essential.

Specific Background Required

  • BS degree in Civil, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, and MS degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, Ph.D. preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years professional experience and P.E. registration.  
  • Strong skills in planning and design of large municipal water and wastewater facilities.
  • Demonstrated competency in treatment plant hydraulics and modeling of complex hydraulic systems.
  • Experience in assembling contract documents and preparation of design reports for large, complex projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Full computer literacy including word processing, Internet, database, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Desire to be challenged.
  • Willingness to take the initiative and assume responsibility.
  • Strong employee coaching, performance management/development and leadership skills.

Duties

  • Lead a team of Practice Area Leaders that serve all Client Sectors within the firm.
  • Oversee planning and design of water and wastewater treatment, pumping station, reservoir and collection and distribution system facilities.
  • Provide leadership in development and modifications to firm-wide QA/QC manual.
  • Oversee assignment of Quality Control Committees for major projects.
  • Perform project management for selected projects.
  • Assure quality of engineering reports and engineering drawings and specifications for large, complex water and wastewater projects.
  • Assure quality of facility Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Manuals and perform operations evaluations.
  • Participate in marketing activities such as client development, proposal preparation and oral interview presentations.
  • Oversee professional development, mentoring programs and training programs for all technical staff.
  • Oversee preparation and maintenance of firm-wide design standards, standard specifications, typical details, calculation standards, etc.
