Senior Project Manager (Drinking Water Design)

FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports To: Client Sector Leader

Job Summary

This is considered an intermediate to advanced position within the drinking water design field.  The position is primarily responsible for providing senior drinking water treatment plant design engineering and project management.  The ideal candidate would have extensive knowledge in water quality and water treatment for both surface and groundwater supplies.

Position Responsibilities

  • Design treatment facilities including filtration systems, chemical handling and feed systems, reservoirs, pump stations and solids handling facilities.

  • Prepare engineering reports, engineering drawings and specifications for large, complex drinking water design projects.

  • Effectively manage project budgets and schedules while coordinating workload of other project team members.

  • Participate in facility startup, operator training, and process and equipment troubleshooting.

  • Prepare facility Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Manuals and perform operations evaluations.

  • Supervise and mentor junior engineering staff.

  • Lead marketing activities such as client development, proposal preparation and oral interview presentations.

  • Represent the firm in both client and industry drinking water process committees and working groups.

  • Availability for occasional travel for project needs and company representation at industry conferences.

Education & Work Experience

  • BS and MS degree in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering with an emphasis in drinking water plant design and technologies.

  • Minimum 15-20 years professional experience and P.E. registration.      

  • Strong skills in design and project management of large municipal drinking water facilities.

  • Experience in planning and implementing drinking water bench studies and pilot tests.

  • Experience in preparing design reports and technical memoranda for large, complex, municipal projects.

  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.

  • Full computer literacy including word processing, Internet, database, spreadsheets, etc.

  • Desire to be challenged.

Performance Expectations

  • Provide leadership as a member of the drinking water group team.
  • Demonstrate leadership and outstanding performance in drinking water design.
  • Increase the knowledge base of other Engineers, and Project Managers within the company in the understanding of drinking water processes, and mentor junior staff.
  • Serve at the national level on a committee for an industry organization such as AWWA.
  • Present annually at professional general drinking water conferences and specific technical conferences.
  • Demonstrate willingness to take the initiative and assume responsibility.
  • Demonstrate ability to work well as a team leader or team member.
  • Maintain department billability goals.
  • Follow company standard policies and procedures such as those included in the Employee Policy Manual.
